Dinamo was looking to claim another English scalp after knocking out Liverpool last month to secure a place in their first Youth League quarter-final and the Croatians were able to settle quickly in Cobham. They took the early sting out of the contest as both sides struggled to fashion openings throughout the first 20 minutes, with the hosts foiled by a deep-lying defence and an inconsistent final ball.
Dinamo’s game plan was working nicely and were leading 2-0. Chelsea was down two goals with less than 15 minutes remaining. But then Luke McCormick became the hero of the day by scoring two goals to force extra time against the visitors. The game eventually went to penalties through which Chelsea secured the U19’s passage through to the semifinal.
